elianthos... actually this narrator is still Kane speaking, the whole chapter. XDD
Kane is very observant.
When the chapter is done it will all make sense!

I'll fix the spelling mistakes tonight, thanks. :D

appledotte... Kes is probably getting scurvy. It was very common back in the days. It was very common on ships... it means you lack vitamins. She probably wasn't well fed to begin with and being on a ship didn't help.

Of course Wes has the kindness not mentioning to her: you are scurvy dog! XD
although at the moment he still didn't like her... but because she has such and embarrassed face he just looks at her and makes no comments. Then he gives her the lemon which was - back in the days - a form of solution to the problem.

dedasaur, June 22nd, 2010, 2:12 am

Limes were not known in Europe or in the Mediterranean sea back then. They probably didn't even have limettas. But in the Eastern side of the sea probably, from Persia, they had some form of limettas for cooking. I am not sure about it.

We are orbiting around the Southern/ Western Mediterranean island (between Spain, Italy, ex-Yugoslavia and Greece)... the other side of the sea belonged to the Turkish pirates/navy and the Venetian merchants still.

We stay in the Spanish domain only: Spain and Kingdom of Naples and Sicily. Not to be confused with the Spanish Main - that's colonial side/Caribbean. We won't go there.

Sicily is the main producer of lemon, oranges and tangerines in the area. The area around Palermo is still called: the golden bowl (la conca d'oro).

Limes arrived in Europe after 1670/80 (For the western world, the lime was first mentioned by Sir Thomas Herbert in 1670) - our story takes place about 15/20 years before that - even so they weren't popular (as lemons are sweet in Sicily, you eat them like oranges just add salt on it, it's very good and refreshing :D)... I saw limes for the first time in my life in 1982.

Sure, Rheebus, your teacher was right! Limes were used afterwars and she was probably referring to the Western India Company and/or the Eastern India company... and the Caribbeans too.
I might have mentioned that in the blog entry :D

might have... did I?

I guess my next blog entry will be about... why do pirates poop overboard? XDD

Sorry, with the move and all I've been very busy! The next chunk of pages is focusing on Kane and Castalia (heeey this thing is called The Pirate Balthasar after all, LOL).

Ah... just remember... Westley blushes for the weirdest reasons but it's not for embarrassment... mainly blood flushing to his head LOL... dunno.

When he is embarrassed he actually covers his face with his hand (when he is mad with both). :D

Please post more soon!

elianthos, June 21st, 2010, 2:27 pm

AAWWWWW <3333 . *brings fan to Wes XD*
Fo PVetty, Fo Touching *__*.

Top left panel: I've checked online for 'speciment', but couldn't find it. Do you mean 'specimen' instead?
Top right panel: unless you're using some alternative and old spelling (?), the extra 'm' in lemmons has to go :).

As I've mentioned before, about the narrator's voice... here is you ( aka omniscent narrator ), but just for aesthetics and for avoiding even remote misunderstanding with Kane's log parts I'd pick a different font for the latter.

Indeed, juicy pages. Thank you very much, you busy awesome lizard <3 .

timbermoonkiss, June 21st, 2010, 3:13 pm

Ah! Oh my gosh!! Yes!! You love her Wes! You love her!! And men that must have been embarrassing when he mentioned the menstraul cycle!

Rheebus, June 21st, 2010, 8:01 pm

I thought it was limes they used and not lemons? >_> Love his expressions this page around :D

KasiaWo, June 21st, 2010, 9:39 pm

@ Rheebus: They used what ever they could get a hold of, but Lemons work better than limes.

AppleDotte, June 22nd, 2010, 12:24 am

Ah, I wasn't aware that scurvy would effect your skin like that. I knew it effected your gums.

bunnystar, June 22nd, 2010, 3:35 am

awwwww how cute! he's so adorable! XD

elianthos, June 22nd, 2010, 9:13 am

@Deda: answered you elsewhere about the voice issue, but here I'd just say... Kane is God XD. Well, god-like :D.
But I still lurve the doc moar :p. He's such a Jew(el) :D.
Interesting mini-essay about scurvy dogs and fruits on the blog 8D .
By the way, you can now rightly put a WARNING: LEMON for the story XD.

Rheebus, June 22nd, 2010, 9:50 am

Thanks for clarifying. I remember my teacher saying something about limes, but I forget which area we were talking about, if at all. =)

Supervillain, June 22nd, 2010, 10:31 am

SecretComicLover (Guest), November 7th, 2010, 7:15 pm

Ay me... That shirt-flapping bit looks very familiar... (Rex Harrison as Frederick totally has nothing on Westley Fynn!)
Some Ahava and a little Raya to go along with the Dod for once... very interesting...
(Note: those were the three words in the Hebrew language used for love, e.g. in the Song of Songs, in three different aspects: Ahava as devotion, an eagerness to commit, Raya as friendship, feeling like a soulmate, and Dod as desire--heard it all on the second video in Rob Bell's Nooma series, "Flame")
By the way: EXPERIENCING instead of "Experimenting"...

elianthos, November 8th, 2010, 4:04 am

@SCL: whoa, good catch O_O *_*

SecretComicLover (Guest), April 25th, 2011, 8:16 pm

Oops, it was Rex Smith I was thinking of... easy to get your Rexes crossed...

FarStar (Guest), June 17th, 2011, 7:18 am

Ahh, I liked Wstley much better after these pages, too, for some reason (that being what narrator says, I guess). ^^;
Kane is super observant. xD I guess he is also like a trust person for all his crew, some guys especially. C:

Dracula, June 27th, 2011, 6:51 am

wafflecon, August 25th, 2011, 11:40 pm
